A Day in the Life - Music

A Day in the Life of Music at Living Waters
Lower Primary (Foundation – Year 2)
Our youngest musicians begin each session with a joyful song and movement to get voices and bodies warmed up. From there, we dive into the building blocks of music:
- Keeping the beat with claps, taps, and percussion
- Exploring rhythm by clapping syllables and playing call-and-response games
- Listening carefully to sounds, tempo, and pitch changes
- Expressing through movement with playful dances and music games
Outcomes: Students learn to listen and respond to music, explore rhythm and pitch, and begin creating and performing with confidence.
Upper Primary (Year 3 – Year 6)
Our older students start music with engaging activities to sharpen listening and coordination. We then build on foundational skills with:
- Rhythm patterns and notation – reading and writing simple rhythms
- Singing and beat-making – exploring rounds, harmonies, and layered sounds
- Ukulele practice – mastering chord changes, strumming techniques, and group performance
- Creative collaboration – listening, performing, and composing together
Outcomes: Students refine their ability to perform, compose, and respond to music. They experiment with musical ideas, work collaboratively, and develop confidence as musicians.
Why This Matters for Your Child
Music at Living Waters isn’t just about singing songs — it’s about growing confident, creative, and connected learners. Through music, children develop:
- Listening and concentration skills that boost learning across all subjects
- Coordination and rhythm that strengthen memory and sequencing
- Confidence to perform and share their voice
- Collaboration and respect while making music together
Every note, clap, and chord is part of a bigger picture: helping your child flourish through the joy of music. There are many other opportunities to be involved in music at Living Waters, whether through involvement in Eisteddfods, whole school concerts and community events.
