A Day in the Life - 5/6 Reef

Session 1 8:20am-10:20am - We start our days together with either devotion, whole school Worship, or Assembly.  This is a time of fellowship and reflection to set us up for the day ahead.

Devotion: Devotion is a time for children to connect with God through prayer, Bible reading, and reflection, fostering a personal relationship with Him and developing their own faith.

Fitness: Daily fitness improves our physical wellbeing, develops social skills and enhances focus for learning tasks.

Literacy: All students work in small groups to develop phonics, handwriting, grammar and comprehension skills targeted to their individual needs.

Session 2 11:00am-1:00pm In the middle of the day.

Mathematics: We use a range of strategies to engage students including concrete, pictorial and abstract representations to develop mathematical thinking skills, understandings, problem.

Integrated Inquiry: This is when we draw together the curriculum areas of Science, HASS, Technology and Art to provide authentic learning activities based on students interests and wonderings. We explore different types of texts relating to our inquiry and ensure students have opportunities to create their own meaningful texts.

Health: We use the Bounce Back program to teach regulation strategies and social skills. This allows us to develop a shared vocabulary about how we are feeling and friendships. We have daily care groups which is a time where a small group of children and an educator check in with where we are in the Zones of Regulation and practice friendship skills.

Session 3 1:40pm-2:50pm In the afternoon.

Silent Reading: An opportunity to transition from the busy playground to the classroom, it is a time for students to focus on reading for enjoyment at their level. Educators either read with a student or model reading for enjoyment.

Christian Studies: Christian Studies provides a safe and supportive context in which students can reflect on their experiences of the world and on their own beliefs and spirituality. The Christian Studies classroom is a supportive, inclusive and safe environment.

End of the day: At the end of the final learning period students present their work for feedback, tidy their learning spaces and join the cohort for end of day reflections, notes, and prayer. They are encouraged to pack their diary and pockets into their bags before heading home.
