A Day in the Life of The Nest
In Years 3 and 4, students take bold steps in independence, building stronger skills in Literacy and Numeracy while exploring their creativity and curiosity through inquiry. Each day blends structure with adventure, helping every child flourish academically, socially, and spiritually.
Session 1 (8:20am – 10:20am)
- Morning Meeting – roll, devotion, and fitness to start the day connected, centred, and energised.
- Literacy Groups – targeted small-group learning in reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension, with regular review to meet each student’s needs.
Key learning outcome: Students expand their vocabulary, develop strategies for reading longer texts, and learn to write more structured, detailed pieces.
Session 2 (11:00am – 1:00pm)
- Number Fluency Program – daily practice in number sense, patterns, and quick recall to build confidence.
- Mathematics – hands-on, small-group lessons exploring number, algebra, measurement, geometry, and statistics.
- Project-Based Learning – project-based units weave together Science, HASS, Technology, and Literacy, encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
Key learning outcome: Students strengthen problem-solving, fluency with operations, and reasoning skills across real-world contexts.
Session 3 (1:40pm – 2:50pm)
- Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading – 15 minutes of uninterrupted reading to build stamina and enjoyment.
- Afternoon Subjects –
- Bounce Back – resilience, social skills, and learning how to learn.
- Christian Studies – exploring God’s Word and the life of Jesus.
- Culture with Ms Tanisha – learning Arrernte culture and language.
- Specialties – PE & Music with Mr Armstrong, Art with Ms Emma, Library with Ms Mel.
